Attention dog owners! To help celebrate the new Sea Dogs exhibit the Door County Maritime Museum is sponsoring a photo contest from July 1 to Aug. 1.

“We invite you to send a photograph of your dog enjoying life in or on the water,” explains June Larson, Assistant Curator. “Whether your dog is cruising on a motor yacht, riding the waves on a skiff or just wading in the shallows, we want to see him/her.”

The Door County Maritime Museum chronicles amazing “tails” of the enduring human-canine relationship in a new Sea Dogs exhibit, which opened at the Sturgeon Bay museum in May. “From shipboard mascots to working dogs trained specifically for maritime pursuits, sea dogs have loyally served, saved and loved their sailor companions.”

The photo contest winner’s canine friend will be the museum’s official “mascot of the day” during the Door County Classic & Wooden Boat Festival on Aug. 8. The winner will also receive a family membership for one year that will allow them unlimited “free” admission to all three Door County Maritime Museum locations.

To submit photos, send a high resolution digital image with the dog’s name, breed, when and where the photograph was taken, a brief description (200 words or less) of the dog and their nautical activities to [email protected]. The museum will include all submitted photos in a photo album that is on display in the new exhibit.
