Pioneers, Eagles Advance to Softball Regional Finals

After a scoreless first inning, Sevastopol’s softball team dominated Tuesday’s WIAA Division 5 Regional semifinal in Institute.

The top-seeded Pioneers shut out No. 8-seeded Pembine/Goodman in five innings, 10-0.

Sevastopol tallied four runs in the bottom of the second, and added three more runs in the both the third and fourth innings. Naomi Rikkola singled and doubled as part of that offensive assault.

The Pioneers’ Libby Ash pitched the first three frames to record the victory, with Addison Schauske closing out the final two innings to record the shutout.

With the win, the Pioneers advance to Thursday’s regional championship game to host No. 4-seeded Niagara, which won its regional semifinal against No. 5-seeded NEW Lutheran, 10-3.

Southern Door 5, Wrightstown 4

Southern Door advanced to the Division 3 regional championship game when the No. 6-seeded Eagles won 5-4 on Tuesday at No. 3-seeded Wrightstown.

With the win, Southern Door plays Thursday against the winner between No. 2-seeded  Wautoma and No. 7-seeded Adams-Friendship.
