Pioneers Basketball: Boys, Girls Midseason Update

The Sevastopol Pioneers boys and girls basketball teams recently passed the midway point of the regular season and will push for a strong finish as tournament time approaches next month.

Boys

The Pioneers boys team record is currently 3-9 overall (0-7 conference). At this point last season, the Pioneers record stood at 2-10 after 12 games, showing a slight improvement this season.

The Pioneers notched their first victory in their third game of the season on Dec. 3 over the Stockbridge Indians, 89-41, at Sevastopol.

In the two-day Kohler Tournament on Dec. 11 & 12, the Pioneers found redemption after a 45-65 loss to Kohler on day one of the tournament by beating Johnson Creek, 73-50, the following day. The Pioneers finished the tournament at 1-1.

The Pioneers came off of their holiday break by beating the Northeast Wisconsin Christian Homeschool team, 70-50, in front of their home crowd on Jan. 4.

With nine regular season games left to play before the WIAA tournament begins, the Pioneers look to score a few more victories in hopes of making a run in the playoffs. Head Coach Andy Symons will continue to push his team in hopes of a strong finish in the regular season.

Girls

The Lady Pioneers also reached the midway point of their regular season. Currently, their overall regular season record stands at 3-8 (0-8 Conference). At this point last season, the Pioneers record also stood at 3-8 overall.

The Pioneers scored three nonconference victories this season over Stockbridge, Crivitz, and Goodman/Pembine.

On Dec. 3, the Pioneers won their home opener against the Stockbridge Indians, 43-16, to bring their record to 1-2 early in the season.

One week later, the lady Pioneers traveled to Crivitz and scored their second victory of the season, 38-28.

After returning from the holiday break, the Pioneers rebounded after a 25-68 loss at Southern Door with a 50-35 road win against Goodman/Pembine on Jan. 7.

The lady Pioneers will have 11 regular season games before their WIAA tournament play begins. Head Coach, Dan Judas, will continue to have his team working for more victories in this second half of the season.

 

Sevastopol’s Jan. 15 home game against Algoma was rescheduled for Thursday, Feb. 4. The game was postponed due to inclement weather.
