Pioneers Packerland Girls Hoops Champs at 16-0

Sevastopol’s girls basketball team closed out its regular-season schedule Saturday undefeated in the Packerland Conference with a 49-21 victory at Peshtigo.

Bailey Rikkola led three Pioneer players in double figures with a game-high 15 points. Libby Ash added 11 points, which included three 3-pointers, and Kayla Ranly scored 10 more.

The Bulldogs were led by Akira Smalls with 11 points.

Sevastopol, which enters the postseason first in the Packerland at 16-0 and 23-1 overall, opens the WIAA girls basketball tournament Feb. 24 in Division 5 and will host a regional semifinal as a No. 2 seed against the winner of Tuesday’s quarterfinal between No. 7-seeded Suring and No. 10-seeded Bowler.

Southern Door (9-7, 14-10), which tied for fourth with Kewaunee in the conference, is seeded No. 8 in Division 4 and hosts a regional quarterfinal game Tuesday against No. 9-seeded Algoma.

Gibraltar (2-14, 4-20), which finished eighth in the Packerland, is seeded No. 13 in Division 5 and plays its regional quarterfinal Tuesday at No. 4 Niagara.

Sturgeon Bay (0-16, 2-13), which placed ninth in the conference, is seeded No. 11 in Division 3 and plays its regional quarterfinal Tuesday at No. 6-seeded Clintonville.
