Pioneers Split Softball Twin Bill with Wolves

Sevastopol’s softball team won one of the two Packerland Conference games it hosted Friday against Algoma.

The Pioneers dropped the first game to the Wolves, 5-2.

Losing pitcher Libby Ash allowed six hits and struck out five for Sevastopol, which committed five defensive errors.

Of the Pioneers’ three hits, Naomi Rikkola, Johanna Andreae and Alaina Schopf had one hit apiece.

Sevastopol won the second game 15-8.

Winning pitcher Addison Schauske gave up five hits and 11 walks, while striking out five.

At the plate for the Pioneers, Andreae hit 4-5, with three runs scored and five runs driven in. Jolene Luedtke also batted 4-5, with five runs scored. Schopf hit 3-5, with 2 RBI. Schauske was 1-2, with three walks and five runs scored.

Sevastopol, which is 10-4 in the Packerland, hosts its final conference doubleheader Monday afternoon against Oconto.

Pioneers No. 3 Seed in D5

The Pioneers begin the WIAA Tournament on May 23 as a No. 3 seed in Division 5 and will host a regional semifinal against No. 6-seeded NEW Lutheran.

The winner will advance to the regional championship game May 25 to face the semifinal winner between No. 2-seeded Almond Bancroft and No. 7-seeded Tri-County.
