Pizza Palooza Fundraiser on April 7 Benefits Community’s Garden

The Community’s Garden will hold their fifth annual Pizza Palooza fundraiser on April 7, 5 – 7 pm, at the Sturgeon Bay Yacht Club. Participants will work alongside local chefs Veronica Ripp of the Get Real Café and Casey Andrews of Sevastopol Schools to create their own personal pizzas. Pre-made whole wheat or cauliflower pizza dough will be available, and toppings will include fresh vegetables, cheese and meats. A fresh foods salad bar will also be featured.

“We’re making this year’s event family-friendly,” says Carmen Schroeder, board member for The Community’s Garden. “It’s an open house, so people can come enjoy at their own pace. We also lowered the ticket prices and are allowing younger kids to attend free of charge.”

The event is the primary fundraiser for The Community’s Garden, whose mission is to provide garden space for all community members who want to grow their own healthy foods. The garden is located across the street from Ministry Door County Medical Center.

“We charge plot fees to our gardeners and obtain a variety of grants to support the operating costs of the garden,” says Schroeder, “but we rely on this event to raise funds for major expenses like irrigation and upkeep.”

The event will also feature the popular scarecrow raffle, featuring life-sized scarecrows ideal for placing in gardens or yards. Also, complimentary seedling plants will be given away, and a magician will provide entertainment.

Tickets can be purchased at the door the night of the event for $30. Children under age 14 are admitted free. For more information, call Jenny Spude at 920.559.6871.
