Players’ Summer Seminars Begin June 27

Peninsula Players Theatre continues to expand its popular series of free public seminars, beginning June 27 with long-time Players set designer and board member Jim Maronek. The free seminars are held from 2:30 – 4 pm on Saturdays throughout the summer and require advance reservations. Summer seminars will be held in the theater with fall seminars being held in the rehearsal hall.

Maronek has enjoyed a career as a theatrical set designer, and maintains his studio and gallery at Silver Poplar Studios in Ellison Bay. His stage designs have been seen at Peninsula Players, American Folklore Theatre, and the Door Community Auditorium. He has designed for theaters across the nation, including on- and off-Broadway. He has earned two Joseph Jefferson Awards and is Professor Emeritus of Design at DePaul University.

Players actor, director, and author Tom Mula will lead a Playwriting Workshop and read from his work July 19 from 2:30 – 4 pm in the Players’ new theatre. Writers and non-writers of all levels are welcome and encouraged to bring pen and paper or laptop. The Players’ Seminars will continue every three weeks throughout the summer, and then every Saturday after Labor Day through October 17. Additional topics planned for the remainder of the season include a peek backstage, Shakespeare, costume design, playing comedy, building new theaters, inside the acting process, handling the unexpected, and a look forward to our 75th anniversary season in 2010.
