Plein Air Festival Winners Announced

“Monday Morning” by Marc Hanson received Best in Show and Artists’ Choice Awards for the 2012 Door County Plein Air Festival.

The award-winning works by the featured artists of the 2012 Door County Plein Air Festival, hosted by Peninsula School of Art, will be on view through August 18 at the school.

Minnesota artist Marc Hanson’s painting of a sunlit country road, entitled “Monday Morning,” received both the Best in Show and Artists’ Choice Awards. The Second Place Award was presented to M. Shawn Cornell of Missouri for “Horseshoe Bay Farm.” Milwaukee artist and Peninsula School of Art faculty member, Shelby Keefe, was awarded Third Place for her marine scene, “There’s No Getting Away From It.” Honorable Mention was awarded to Tennessee artist Dawn Whitelaw for “Sister Bay PM,” which offered a sunset water view.

“Horseshoe Bay Farm” by M. Shawn Cornell was awarded second place.

The Dockside Quick Paint event invited artists to compete for the opportunity to be a featured artist in the 2013 Festival. Minnesota artist Lisa Stauffer received the First Place award in the Dockside competition. Second Place was awarded to Rick Brawner of Fish Creek and Third Place was presented to Julie Jilek of Appleton.

The purchase of festival paintings benefits the school’s art education programs.
