Plein Air Means Travel for Academy Instructor

For Ken Dewaard, an instructor at the Kewaunee Academy of Fine Art (KAFA), there is nothing more rewarding and challenging than painting plein air. He travels and competes in plein air events throughout the United States as well as internationally. By participating in plein air events throughout the world, he has stepped beyond his early training and delve deeper into different influences.

Dewaard has a direct and pure approach as well as a bravura brush style, which he achieves by painting from life. Strongly inspired by John Singer Sargent, Joaquin Sorolla, William Wendt, Aldro Hibbard, and the Russian Impressionists, Dewaard finds himself painting an array of subject matter from everyday life. He currently resides with his wife and four young children in southwest Wisconsin.

Dewaard will be teaching a three-day workshop for all levels of artists at the academy. The class is open to oil, acrylic, watercolor, and pastel painters and will take place July 28 – July 30 from 9 am – 4 pm daily.

The KAFA will host a Meet and Greet open to the public on July 27 from 6 – 8 pm.

The academy is located at 77 Steele Street in Algoma. For more information call 920.487.7220 or visit http://www.kewauneeacademy.com.
