Plenty of Outdoor Activities at The Ridges Sanctuary

Join a Ridges naturalist for a relaxing, informative walk through the Ridges Sanctuary Tuesdays – Fridays, 10 am. Hikes include seeing the Upper Range Light lantern room and historical cabins. The walks are appropriate for all ages, limited to six participants and require advance  registration. The cost is $5 per member, $8 for the public, and free for ages 18 and younger. Meet at the Cook-Albert Fuller Nature Center.

Enjoy a night hike on the boardwalk Aug. 28, 8-9:30 pm. Learn about the creatures that become active after the sun goes down, and check out the range lights at work as a navigational aid. Please do not carry any luminary devices so that your eyes adjust to the dark. The hike is limited to six participants; advance registration is required. The cost is $5 per member, $8 for the public, and free for ages 18 and younger. Meet at the Cook-Albert Fuller Nature Center.

Join the family fort-building contest Aug. 29, 9-10:30 am. No tools are allowed, and building materials – from nonliving plants and trees only – must be found at The Ridges that day. A prize will go to the winning team. The contest is limited to eight families; registration is required. The cost is $10 per family, with a maximum of two adults and four children.

Enter your photos taken at The Ridges or in Baileys Harbor – with the theme of nature – during The Ridges’ photo contest, Aug. 24-29. The top three photos will receive prizes. Submit photos through Facebook and Instagram by tagging @ridgessanctuary and using #ridgesphoto2020.

Join a naturalist to explore Appel’s Bluff on a moderate to easy hike Sept. 2, 10:30 am. The area features rock ledges, a hardwood forest and open fields. Take binoculars if desired. The hike is limited to six participants; registration is required. The cost is $5 per member, $8 for the public, and free for ages 18 and younger. Meet at the Cook-Albert Fuller Nature Center.
