Plum Island Open to the Public

Plum Island, located in the Death’s Door Passage between the tip of the Door Peninsula and Washington Island, will be open to the public Aug. 20 & 21, 9 am – 4 pm. The pier will be accessible that weekend for private boaters wishing to use it.

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service staff and volunteers with the Friends of Plum and Pilot Islands will be on hand to talk to visitors about the island, which is part of the Green Bay National Wildlife Refuge.

People who don’t own their own boat or kayak may contact Shoreline Charters in Gills Rock about public transportation to the island for this special event. The cost is $39 per person. Call 920.421.0922 or email Shoreline Charters at [email protected] for more information. For more information on the Green Bay National Wildlife Refuge go to fws.gov/refuge/green_bay/.
