Door County Poet Laureate Sharon Auberle joins former Wisconsin Poet Laureates Max Garland and Kimberly Blaeser in an evening of music and poetry on Dec. 1, 7 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 10341 Water Street, Ephraim. Emcee for the evening is Ralph Murre and music is provided by pianist Beth Coleman. The program is presented free, with donations suggested to benefit the programs of Write On, Door County.
The reading honors the publication of Max Garland’s latest poetry collection, The Word We Used For It, winner of the 2017-18 Brittingham Prize for Poetry. About the collection, Kao Kalia Yang, author of The Latehomecomer and The Song Poet, wrote, “Each poem is a gift of seeing, a gift of reflection, a mirror for the holy. We, as readers, get to taste what language can do when it melts into our tongues, flavors our lives.”
Garland is Professor Emeritus at UW-Eau Claire, the current Writer-in-Residence for the city of Eau Claire, and the former Poet Laureate of Wisconsin.
A light reception and book signing will follow the reading. For more information visit writeondoorcounty.org.
