Poetry Jumpstart Award

An offshoot of the Poetry Jumps Off the Shelf Initiative, the Woodrow Hall Jumpstart Award is designed to help other Wisconsin poets implement a project or program that brings poetry into the eye of the general public in an unconventional manner. Proposals are now being accepted for 2012.

An award of $500 will be given to help an individual or a group implement a project or program. In addition, an award of $400 will be given to a finalist for the same purpose. ($300 may be awarded to a runner-up.)

A past winner includes Phil Hansotia and other Door County poets, who used the funds to construct The Poetry Trail in Newport State Park.

A panel of judges unaffiliated with the Wisconsin poetry community will make the selections. Winners must initiate projects by September 2012. There is no entry fee and multiple entries are allowed from the same poet. The entry deadline is February 29, 2012. Winners will be notified in March 2012.
