Police Respond to Fraud Call at Local Church

On Nov. 16 Sturgeon Bay police officers were dispatched to a church in the city to investigate a fraud complaint. Church officials learned that many checks were written without consent throughout the past year to a variety of businesses for high dollar amounts. While investigating this complaint, officers learned that not only checks were written but credit card transactions were also made fraudulently and the suspect stole cash. Investigating officers found the church lost more than $11,000 from forged checks, unauthorized credit card transactions and stolen cash. A former administrative assistant is the sole suspect. The investigation was turned over to the Door County District Attorney’s Office for charges of felony forgery and felony theft. Police refused to release the name of the church or suspect util charges are filed.
