Polka Into Fall at Accordion Fest

The fall 2009 Door County Accordion Polka Fest will be held Sunday, October 25 from 12:30 – 4:30 pm at the Institute Saloon Dancehall, located on Highway 57 north of Sturgeon Bay. Polka playing musicians and the public are both invited to attend this event.

This is the sixth accordion event to be held in the last three years, with the previous events being a great success. The event centers on the button accordion and concertina, accompanied by backup instruments including drums, tuba, guitar, bass, and more.

Several different button accordion and concertina players, ranging from amateur to professional, will perform on stage throughout the afternoon, creating a variety of sounds. The audience can dance to and listen to polkas, waltzes, cajun, schottische, and even some country songs played to a polka beat.

The purpose of this semi-annual event is to revive interest in button accordion and concertina playing in Door County. The fest will provide an opportunity for both accomplished and amateur players to join onstage and bring out the wonderful sounds of these old-time instruments.
