Portraiture Prize Winners Announced

Door Prize for Portraiture Winner, “Young Girl” by Karen Cook.

Fourteen artists participated in the Door Prize for Portraiture event held at the home of Cheryl Stidwell Parker and Steve Lavell. Winners of the Door Prize Best in Show and two honorable mentions were selected by Tom Lidtke, Director of the Museum of Wisconsin Art in West Bend on July 1 at a reception for the artists.

Lidtke commented that the diversity in style, media and vastness of human variety, was exemplary. Style and approach ranged from traditional representational images as well as a modernist nod to fauves neo-expressionist and Pop movements.

Recipient of the $200 cash award for the Door Prize for Portraiture was Karen Cook of Sister Bay for her portrait of “Young Girl.” Honorable Mention awards were given to Liz Maltman of Fish Creek for painting “Self Portrait with Island” and Lynn Gilchrist of Sturgeon Bay for her 3-D piece titled, “Unknown Artist by Unknown Artist.”

Other artists featured in the exhibit include Malin “Tudy” Ekman, Glenn and Marty Gerber, Craig Little, Emmett Johns, Mary Ulm Mayhew, Bonnie Paruch, Cheryl Stidwell Parker, Rick Risch, Archelle “Buttons” Wolst, and Cynthia Wolfe.
