• The Village of Sister Bay and Town of Liberty Grove are hosting a Shredding/Appliance Day on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 9 am to 1 pm. Town and village residents and business owners are welcome to participate by dropping off documents to be shredded for free. Many household appliances can often be dropped off for free, but some will include a $15 charge.

The Jacksonport Town Board has scheduled a special meeting for 1 pm on Saturday, Sept. 28, to rehear the application for conditional use by Gravity Trails, LLC, to construct a zip line course on a 20-acre property in the town.

After vocal opposition from Jacksonport residents, the Door County Resource Planning Committee in a 4-1 vote in early August denied the conditional use permit for the zip line planned for property on Elm Drive, which is zoned as general agricultural land. The committee determined the proposed use was contrary to public interest, the establishment of the proposed use would change the character of the area, the proposed use wasn’t similar to other uses of the area, and the proposed use would cause significant noise issues due to the topography of the area.

Gravity Trails owners Mike Fisher and David Rack appealed that decision before the county’s Board of Adjustment, thereby requiring the Jacksonport Town Board to hear the application again.
