Preparing for Elections and Taxes

Welcome to the Notes from the Grove, providing Liberty Grove residents and visitors tid bits of information about goings on in town government.

• The board has recognized retired Town Assessor David Dorschner with a Resolution of Gratitude for his many years of service to the Town.

• The board also recognized Richard Burress with an Appreciation of Service honor for his years of dedication to Door County as Director of Door County Emergency Services.

• On recommendation of the Highway Committee the board voted to install cautionary pedestrian and children at play signs on Hill Road as it approaches Highway 42. State Statutes set the speed limit at 55 mph in that area since the spacing between driveways does not meet the required spacing to lower the limit. The Door County Sheriff’s Office provided additional information from a Traffic Survey that was done on West Bound Hill Road between August 22nd 2011 and September 1st 2011, and it was decided the yellow cautionary signs with a suggested 35 mph was the best option available to the town.

• The board supported the recommendation of the Plan Commission to support the conditional use permit for the expansion of the Hilander campground/RV park with the provision that downcast lighting is used in the new area.

• An exception to Town Alcohol Beverage Ordinance 1-84 that requires a minimum 300 feet from a church was granted to Patrick and Judy Doherty. They are proposing to a small retail store that would include sales of bottled wine.

• Ryan Anderson, the project manager for Liberty Grove from Associated Appraisal Consultants, will be at the Town Assessor’s Office the first Monday of every month from 9am to noon. He will meet with town residents regarding their property assessments. A Property Review Form is also available at http://www.apraz.com. It is on the left at the bottom of the home page. Associated Appraisal Consultants also indicated they are available to meet with residents when an appointment is scheduled in advance.

• The Board adopted the fees for satisfying record requests under State Statute 19.35 as follows:
photocopy and photocopy processing, $0.20 per page; locating a record if cost exceeds $50, $100; copying meeting to CD, $5; shipping and mailing paper audio copies, $5 minimum or cost, whichever is greater; copying to memory stick, market price; transcription of professionally recorded meeting, actual cost plus shipping.

• A reminder that the new voting laws that requires people to present a photo ID to vote, announce their name and address and sign the poll book when receiving a ballot. Please contact the Town Office with questions.
