Preventing and Treating Diabetes

Northern Door Health & Wellness Ministry continues its Community Health Information Programs (CHIPs) on June 22 at 4 pm with “Preventing and Treating Type 2 Diabetes” at First Baptist Church in Sister Bay. Carmen Schroeder, registered dietician, nutritionist and Ministry diabetes educator, will discuss measures to prevent the onset of Type 2 Diabetes and its management.

People are at risk of type 2 diabetes if they are overweight, have high blood pressure, had gestational diabetes when pregnant or if someone in their family has it. A simple blood test ordered by a health care provider can check for type 2 diabetes.

The certified diabetes educators at Ministry Door County Medical Center can provide personalized guidelines on how to manage diabetes, including understanding the diagnosis as well as guiding patients on diet, exercise, blood glucose testing and medication.

The Ministry also offers free blood pressure screenings on the fourth Tuesday of each month at St. Rosalia’s Church at 5 pm and at the Northern Door YMCA on the second Tuesday of each month from 8:15 – 10:15 am. For more information visit
