Private Well-Testing Opportunity

The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh is inviting private well owners in Door County to participate in a groundwater study this fall. Well owners should register by Sept. 12 by filling out the form at uwo.sh/doorco-wells-fall22.

The study is a continuation of the groundwater studies done in the fall of 2019, 2020 and 2021. The goals are to provide education about the importance of testing well water and to build a database of groundwater-quality data in Door County.

The study’s testing parameters include bacteria and nitrate for a discounted cost of $30 for the first 300 registrants. The cost for those after the first 300 will be $45. Registrants will also have the option to add arsenic and cumulative tests (pH, hardness, alkalinity and iron) for an additional $25. Registrants will receive their sample kits in the mail following registration and payment for their chosen tests.

This study is a cooperative effort between UW-Oshkosh and Door County, with funding provided by Door County Public Health and the Door County Soil and Water Conservation Department.
