Professor Rev. Stephen Peay Visits Church of Atonement July 16-23

The Rev. Stephen Peay, dean and professor of homiletics and church history at Nashotah House Theological Seminary, will speak July 20 about the question, “Are we still the ‘the nation with the soul of a church?’” His survey of the historical roots and current status of religious belief in the U.S. takes place at 7 pm at Church of the Atonement in Fish Creek. He will also conduct services at Church of Atonement July 16 & 23.

Father Peay, who earned a Ph.D. in historical theology at Saint Louis University, entered monastic life at Saint Vincent Seminary, where he received a master’s and taught as a professor. He left monastic life for parish work for 15 years in Madison and Wauwatosa, while continuing to write and teach. His research concentrates on American religious experience and movements such as Puritanism and Congregationalism.
