Public Boating Seminars

The Door County Sail and Power Squadron (DCS&PS) has a membership of about 80 boating enthusiasts dedicated to “Safe Boating through Education.” Your local squadron is one of 450 throughout the United States, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands where the total members number near 50,000.

DCS&PS conducts two “Boaters’ Safety Courses” a year at NWTC – one in April and one in July. In addition to these courses, the squadron is offering, for the first time, a series of short seminars to the public as well. These seminars are typically two to three hours long. One is scheduled each month of the boating season at local marinas, yacht clubs, West Marine and other venues. The remaining seminars for 2008 are:

• June 14: Boat Handling under Power

• July 5: Sail Trim & Rigging

• August 9: On-board Weather Forecasting

• September 20: Use of Charts

Visit the DCS&PS Web site at usps.org/door to learn more about the Door County Sail and Power Squadron and how to register for the seminars. Look for particulars in the Peninsula Pulse as each seminar draws closer.
