Public Health Department Offers Mental Health Program May 15

Door County Public Health Department’s Mental Health Focus Group is holding a free community program with Mettie Spiess on May 15, 6 pm, at Stone Harbor Conference Center in Sturgeon Bay. Everyone is welcome; the intended audience is adults and older teens accompanied by adults.

Spiess is the 2016 National Alliance of Mental Illness Education Advancement Award Winner, professional speaker and the founder of Hope Heroes Unite. She connects with audiences through unmasking her journey with mental illness, suicidal loss and the lessons she has learned from uniting survivors across the country.

Spiess believes that anyone can live mentally well regardless of diagnosis with the right tools and support and that suicide is 100 percent preventable.
