Public Hearing on ATV Use in Sevastopol

The Town of Sevastopol is hosting a public hearing Tuesday, Dec. 7, on the proposed operation of ATVs/UTVs on town roads. The issue was taken to the town’s Park and Recreation Committee in August. Resident Tamara Jilot said they’d like to open some town roads – and in the future, county roads – to access businesses. Costs for signage would be covered by business owners and private support.

The Park and Recreation Committee sent the request to the Sevastopol Town Board, which took it up during its Oct. 18 meeting. Thad Ash, Door County Highway Department commissioner, was invited to attend the meeting to provide input, according to the meeting minutes.

Ash told the board that the first step was to establish routes on town roads and apply to the county later for the sections the town would ask to be opened. ATVs/UTVs would not need permission to cross county roads or state highways.

The public hearing – set to begin at 5:30 pm at the town hall, 4528 Hwy 57 – will provide information and allow for public comments, concerns and questions. Depending upon the number of people who wish to speak, time limits and other guidelines may apply. Written comments and concerns may be submitted to the town clerk at [email protected].
