Public Input Sought for Controlling Invasives

The Ridges Sanctuary will hold an informational session on Dec. 15, seeking public input for a draft management plan to implement invasive species control within a designated project area.

The Ridges Sanctuary, in partnership with University of Wisconsin – Green Bay and others, will be seeking grant funding through the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Aquatic Invasive Species Control grant program. The grant application will include treatment of Phragmites australis, a highly aggressive, invasive plant, identified on The Ridges properties, UW-Green Bay’s Toft Point and neighboring privately owned shoreline properties.

The management plan to be discussed will include a review of threats from Phragmites australis, discussion of historical treatments, management objectives, proposed project areas and proposed control actions and follow-up activity.

Interested parties can attend the session at 6:30 pm on Dec. 15 at the Cook-Fuller Nature Center, 8166 Hwy. 57, Baileys Harbor. If you would like to review a copy of the proposed plan visit The Ridges Sanctuary website, ridgessanctuary.org, or contact Brian Forest at 920.839.2802 or [email protected].
