Public Meeting on Material Dredged from Sturgeon Bay

A public meeting to discuss disposal of dredged material from the bed of Sturgeon Bay will be held by the Department of Natural Resources at 1:30 pm, Wednesday, Feb. 7, in the Peninsula Room at the Door County government center at 421 Nebraska St. Roen Salvage Company has requested approval from the DNR to dispose of sediments dredged from the bed of Sturgeon Bay. The company proposes to dispose of the material at a former sand and gravel quarry located at 2375 County U, Town of Sturgeon Bay, owned by Ivan Bissen. Similar dredged material, deemed suitable for use by the DNR, may also be used to reclaim the quarry in the future. Use of future dredged material at the quarry will be reviewed by DNR. The purpose of the meeting is to solicit public comment and answer questions on the proposal. There will be a brief introduction and explanation of the project by DNR and Roen Salvage representatives. All public comments will be considered by DNR in its decision. Questions can be directed to Jackie Marciulionis, a DNR hydrogeologist with the waste and materials management program, who can be reached at 920.662.5433 or [email protected].
