The Pulse is excited to announce the writing judges for the Hal Grutzmacher Writers’ Exposé and Photography Jubilee. Alex Kuo will judge the fiction and nonfiction submissions, and Marilyn Taylor will judge the poetry submissions.

Alex Kuo, award winning author and writing professor, will be judging fiction and nonfiction submissions. Most notably, Kuo’s Lipstick and Other Stories won the American Book Award in 2002. More than 350 of Kuo’s poems, short stories, photographs, and essays have appeared in various magazines and newspapers. Kuo is a writing professor and has inspired many young writers including the highly acclaimed author, Sherman Alexie. Kuo studied with the late Hal Grutzmacher at Knox College.

Wisconsin’s Poet Laureate Marilyn Taylor is back again this year to judge the poetry submissions. Taylor’s poetry has appeared in a vast array of publications including The Cream City Review, The Atlanta Review, Sheepshead Review, The American Scholar, Indiana Review, and Verse Wisconsin. Before being appointed Wisconsin’s Poet Laureate, Taylor served as the city of Milwaukee’s Poet Laureate and was an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Taylor is a contributing editor for The Writer Magazine.
