Pulse Staffers Ring in 2013

Angela Sherman spent New Year’s Eve muddling Old Fashioneds, enjoying a variety of delicious appetizers, participating in a white elephant gift exchange, writing and reading 2013 fortunes, and of course a whole lot of shenanigans!

Len Villano always spent New Year’s Eve with his parents and five siblings. They played pool, made homemade pizza, listened to music and watched Dick Clark’s “New Year’s Rockin Eve.” Though Villano’s family is now spread out across the country, he likes to stay home, watch “New Year’s Rockin Eve” and think of family and good times.

What better way for Madeline Johnson and Chris Harris to say goodbye to 2012 than with a batch of homemade Twinkies? Hosts Carrie and Nate Smith generously allowed their kitchen to be made into a royal mess for the evening, which was later culminated with not one, but two awesome bonfires.

While Alissa Ehmke’s better half was working at the Sister Bay Bowl on New Year’s Eve, she enjoyed the evening at home with their son Dempsey. Her night was spent entertaining, and being entertained by, Dempsey. After he fell asleep (he made it to about 8:30 pm), Ehmke spent the rest of the night drinking cups of cinnamon tea and reading The Night Watch by Sarah Waters. She began the New Year perfectly and peacefully.

It took more than a couple tries for Matt Ledger and Kat Prince to get that perfect New Year’s kiss picture, and their efforts weren’t helped by their friend Molly parading around in the background. To get her out of the way, they made her take the picture.

Succumbing to peer pressure, Steve Grutzmacher reluctantly agreed to participate in a séance aimed at contacting Dick Clark on “the other tide.” Though he does not believe in ghosts/spirits he was unable to explain how he sat down at the table wearing a flannel shirt and rose from the table sometime late wearing a turtleneck and sports coat.

Carol Thompson spent New Year’s Eve among new friends and a table full of fabulous snacks! “2013 is going to have a tough time topping 2012,” she admits.

Sally Slattery danced the night away with old and new friends at the warm and welcoming Hitching Post in Valmy. The Offseason (featuring Rob Gay, Elliot Goettelman, Nick Hoover, and Joshua Gregory) started the night out right with fantastic renditions of “Brittany’s Back” and “Minnie the Moocher.” Todd Carey followed with original hits (including one that’s doing particularly well in India).

Carey and The Offseason combined musical talents at the stroke of midnight, performing Grateful Dead covers and jamming out until the wee hours of New Year’s Day.
