Questionnaire to be Sent to Liberty Grove Businesses

Welcome to the Notes from the Grove, providing information about Liberty Grove town government to residents and visitors.

• The economic development committee voted to produce a three-minute video that can be loaded on a flash drive regarding the lack of Chinook salmon stocking in Gills Rock. The lack of stocking has made a financial impact on charter fishing in the waters surrounding Gills Rock. In addition, letters are being sent to our state legislators, the Department of Natural Resources and Governor Walker as well as some federal agencies.

• The committee voted to ask for funding for the initial phase of exploring a community kitchen in Liberty Grove. The finance committee will be considering requests for the 2014 budget in preparations of the budget. Also under discussion is seeking authority to override the levy limit as a means to keep up with maintenance on equipment, roads and buildings in addition to proposed capital improvements. The rolling five-year plans put in place this year have revealed a need for additional revenue to prevent continued falling behind on needed maintenance.

• A questionnaire will be sent to Liberty Grove businesses regarding business conditions this year. The purpose of the questionnaire is to evaluate the effectiveness of Door County North in promoting Liberty Grove as a destination for visitors. As a condition of providing $20,000 in room tax funds this year to the organization an evaluation was to be conducted before next year’s budget.

• A reminder that the fall electronics recycling and shredding day will be held on Sept. 28, beginning at 9 am.

• The county will be giving flu shots at the town hall on Oct. 4 from 11am – 12 pm. Those with Medicare B will not be charged, otherwise a fee will be determined.
