Door County Humane Society (DCHS) has been selected to receive a grant from the American Humane Association’s Meacham Foundation Memorial. DCHS will receive $3,000 to improve its outdoor dog runs, which will allow the shelter to create playgroups for its resident dogs.

“It’s so important that dogs who are with us for a long time are able to have playmates,” said Carrie Counihan, DCHS’s executive director. “Those relationships create stability and improve the animals’ emotional health and quality of life while they wait to find new, loving families.”

The Meacham Foundation Memorial was established in 1969 in memory of Tressa Meacham, and provides financial assistance for shelter expansion or improvements that directly impact the welfare of animals in shelters. Each year, the foundation awards grants in amounts up to $4,000 to several animal care agencies. The Door County Humane Society seeks additional donors and volunteers to make the door kennel project a reality. For more information call 920.746.1111 or visit http://www.dooranimals.com.
