• The League of Women Voters of Door County is sponsoring a program on “Redistricting: Why It Matters & What I Can Do About It” on Tuesday, October 12 at 7 pm at the Sevastopol Town Hall. Mike McCabe, Executive Director of Wisconsin Democracy Campaign, will speak on a topic that affects government at the local, state, and national level.

One of the purposes of the recently completed US Census was to collect population data for use in reapportionment and redistricting. This process will begin in January 2011 with reapportionment of the Congressional seats, following soon after with the drawing up of local and state governmental districts. In other words, the Door County Board of Supervisors and the Sturgeon Bay City Council will be redrawing municipal districts to be used for the next 10 years. The way these districts are drawn can affect who gets elected and which laws get passed.

McCabe will explain the “ins and outs” of the redistricting process at all three levels of government.
