Raising Funds with a Run

Washington Island is buzzing with excitement about this year’s Rec Run/Fund Run Challenge on July 25 at 10 am. Participants are registering and gathering sponsorships so they can be part of this historical challenge that will raise up to $200,000 for Trueblood Performing Arts Center, The Washington Island Foundation, Inc. (WIFI) and the Mosling Recreation Center (The Rec).

By taking part in the 2k walk/run, 5k walk/run or 10k run, this year’s participants can gain huge contributions to the Washington Island Matching Challenge Fund. Here’s how: participants are urged to find friends and family sponsorships for $5, $10, $25, $50, or even $100. Every dollar of sponsorships will be matched by four generous Island donors (up to $10,000 of sponsorship monies). This could mean as much as $20,000 for the Matching Challenge Fund, which would then be matched again by the anonymous donors, making friends/family sponsorships worth up to a potential $40,000. In addition, first-time participants will be recognized by Bruce McClaren’s pledge of a $100 donation for the first 100 new participants. That could bring in as much as $10,000 to be matched once again by the anonymous donors who originated the challenge.

As of June 24, the Challenge received contributions that brought it to 25 percent of their goal. In addition, they have received pledges of several thousand dollars. These pledges will be paid by December 1, 2015.

Registration fees are $35 per adult and $15 for kids age 12 and under. Fees include a t-shirt, snacks, beverages, and awards for overall category winners. Register now at or call 920.847.2226.
