Re-Create Old Hobbies with New Horizons Band

As more Door County adults retire and find time on their hands, they are frequently re-discovering old hobbies and pastimes. The Peninsula New Horizons Band (PNHB) program was developed for adults who wish to learn to play a band instrument, or re-learn an instrument they used to play. Students can learn and play woodwind, brass and percussion instruments.

Classes and lessons are held 6:30-8:30 pm for 15 weeks every Thursday, beginning Feb. 2 at Bay View Lutheran in Sturgeon Bay. Classes and lessons cost $10 per week. Some extra materials may be useful but are at the student’s choice.

Classes are fun and informal, and provide a nice opportunity to mix with like-minded adults who love band music and instruments.

Founding member Paula Eggert, instructor for brass instruments, serves as the PNHB’s conductor. Co-founding member Kathy Krauss is the instructor for woodwind instruments. Local musicians Anika Enger and Mark Fischer continue as additional instructors for students playing brass instruments. Both are active members of the Peninsula Symphonic Band. Eggert is also the director of the Peninsula Symphonic Community Band.
