‘Read for Fines’ at Algoma Library

As part of its upcoming National Library Week celebration, April 8-13, the Algoma Library is doing a “read for fines” promotion all month – ideal for children who have a lot of overdue-book fines on their (or their parents’) accounts.

The library will waive $1 of fines for every 30 minutes a child spends reading in the library, up to $15. The librarians will need to sign off that reading has been completed to have fines waived. This promotion does not apply to lost or damaged items. Also during National Library Week, the library encourages adults and children to contribute nonperishable food items to help stock the local food pantry. For each item donated, $1 will be deducted from overdue-book fines. There is no limit on how much the library will waive. Damaged, lost and billed items are not eligible.
