Ready to Workshop

Write On, Door County offers a writing workshop for individuals and business professionals who want to improve their email communication. Led by visiting instructor Ellen Shriner, the workshop will be held April 12, 10 am – 11 am at the Paul J. Bertschinger Community Center, 7860 Highway 42, in Egg Harbor.

Focusing on the on Do’s and Don’ts of business email, this one-hour workshop is helpful for people who aren’t aware that there is (and should be) a difference between personal email style and business email style. Topics to be addressed include email organization, tone and presentation.

Ellen Shriner is director of communications at Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare in Minneapolis. She has taught in the University of St. Thomas’ Master of Business Communication program. Tuition is $20 payable at the workshop.

Write On, Door County will also host free a writing workshop for people experiencing illness, either their own or that of a loved one. The five-session workshop will take place from 10 am to noon every other Tuesday beginning April 15. All sessions (April 15, 29; May 13, 27; June 10) will be held at Hope United Church of Christ at 141 S. 12th Avenue in Sturgeon Bay.

Heidi Hodges – Door County journalist, editor, and photographer – will conduct the workshop, which will address outlets such as blogs and personal essays. By sharing professional knowledge and personal experience, explaining both how writing helped her through illness and how it can help others, she will address the value of documenting treatment, and explore writing though illness as a means to emotional well-being.

Writers of all skill levels are welcome to participate in the Writing through Illness workshop. For more information on either workshop, call 920.868.1457 or email [email protected].
