Record Numbers at Golden Heart Volunteer Celebration

A record-setting 350 guests celebrated at The Volunteer Center’s 12th Annual Golden Heart Volunteer Celebration – “Connecting People. Changing Lives.” – on April 24.

Scott Johnson, president and publisher of Press-Gazette Media, provided the keynote address based on how he and his company strive to make a difference in their commitment to finding their “purpose.” Marti Spittell Ziegelbauer returned for her 12th year as Master of Ceremonies, bringing each nominee’s contribution to light.

Award recipients received $500 to donate to a Door County charity of their choice in addition to a custom designed art piece by Chad Luberger of Plum Bottom Pottery. Three youth scholarship recipients receive a $500 academic scholarship. The 2014 award recipients are: Kris Husby-Nelson, Door CANcer, Inc. (Adult); Dianne Trenchard, Peninsula Music Festival (Arts & Culture); Door-Tran Volunteer Transportation Drivers (Group); Josie Kielar, Southern Door High School; Samantha Moeller, Sturgeon Bay High School; Kylie Straub, Gibraltar High School (Youth); Recycling Program of Habitat for Humanity (Environmental Stewardship); and Inge Bacon (Lifetime of Service).
