Red Oak Winery Opens at New Location

A new wine-tasting room has opened in Carlsville. Red Oak Winery owners Gigi and Andy Wagener have moved from their operation at 3017 Enterprise Dr. in Sturgeon Bay to 5781 Hwy 42 in Carlsville.

The winery opened in 2004 and had been at the previous location since 2012. The new tasting room opened officially on July 4 – exactly 16 years after its original opening – and welcomed a steady stream of holiday-weekend visitors.

“We had a lot of loyal customers visit, which was great,” said Jen Breyer, a tasting room associate.

In response to the pandemic, the tasting room limits the number of visitors in the space, has Plexiglas barriers installed on the bartop, uses disposable trays and cups for wine tasting, and asks visitors to wear a mask unless partaking in a tasting.

The remodeling was a team effort by the Red Oak Winery staff members, who completed a lot of the work themselves, including flooring, tiling and painting. Breyer studied interior design and helped to design the new space, which was previously a retail shop. Finishing touches are still being added, but the tasting room’s bars and seating areas are open.

Visit the new tasting room Sunday – Thursday, 10 am – 4 pm; and Friday – Saturday, 10 am – 5 pm.
