Register Early for Island Birding Fest

Washington Island’s Birding Festival will make its return May 18-20, to provide birders an experience on Washington, Plum and Rock islands.

The festival is limited in size; 60 registrations will be accepted and then organizers will maintain a waitlist in case of cancellations. Organizers suggest those interested in attending should make lodging reservations as soon as possible. A list of open hotels, motels, inns, campground, etc., is available on the Washington Island Chamber of Commerce website, washingtonisland.com.

Birding happens rain or shine, but the boat trips to Rock and Plum Islands are weather- and wind-dependent. If attendees don’t wish to go on these excursions, there will be alternative opportunities to bird on Washington Island. If the weather/wind/waves prevent the group from taking boat trips there will be alternate birding activities.

The festival is sponsored by the Washington Island Art & Nature Center, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, and Washington Island Ferry. For full event details and registration information, go to wianc.org/bird-festival.
