Repurposed Pieces

Reclaimed & Co. Jewelry will have a trunk show at Sturgeon Bay’s Greco Gallery, Dec. 18 – 19. A variety of one-of-a-kind pieces, perfect for holiday gift giving, will be available.

Melanie Wahlen, local artist and owner of Reclaimed & Co. Jewelry, has a passion for collecting and reusing unique found objects. She says that she enjoys the challenge of breathing new life into old, broken and cast apart pieces, and likes to imagine the potential of overlooked things. Wahlen herself treasures a bracelet she made with buttons from her great-grandmother’s collection, originally saved during the Great Depression.

Wahlen’s choice of materials ensures that her pieces are totally unique, a breath of fresh air in a world cluttered with mass-produced jewelry.

“To me,” says Wahlen, “adorning one’s body with handcrafted jewelry is the highest form of accessorizing. As a mother, I encourage my daughters to express their individuality in everything they do. As a woman, I encourage the same for myself. No two pieces are ever the same.”

To learn more about Wahlen’s work, see the Reclaimed & Co. Jewelry Facebook page. Greco Gallery is located at 24 N. Third Ave. in downtown Sturgeon Bay. Regular hours are from 10 am to 5 pm Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10 am to 5:30 pm Fridays and Saturdays, and 10 am to 2 pm Sundays.
