Door County Primary Election Results (Feb. 21, 2023)

Fields narrowed for the April 4 election in four Door County municipalities on Feb. 21. The top vote-getters will now advance to the April 4 election. Below are the results.

Village of Sister Bay

Seven candidates ran for three seats, requiring the elimination of the one person who received the fewest votes.

The votes were as follows: Patrice M. Champeau, 182 votes; Lilly Orozco, 152 votes; Alison Werner, 139 votes; Vivian Nienow, 101 votes; Andrew Torcivia, 128 votes; Sarah White, 95 votes; Nick Deviley 87 votes.

Total votes cast were 889, including five write-ins.

The village board appointed White to an open trustee seat. Because that appointment came after she filed, her name remained on the primary and now she’ll advance to the April ballot.

“Once a person files to run there is no turning back,” said Door County Clerk Jill Lau.

If White finishes in the top three spots in the April election, she would not have a choice between the elected and appointed seats. A top finish for White April 4 “creates a vacancy that the [Sister Bay village] board will need to fill by appointment,” said Heidi Teich, Sister Bay village clerk. “She [White] does not get to choose between the current appointment she has accepted and the elected term.”

Town of Gibraltar

Five people ran for two supervisor seats, requiring the elimination of the one person with the fewest votes.

The votes were as follows: Thomas M. Birmingham 353 votes; Vinni Chomeau, 280 votes; Brian Merkel, 119 votes; John Selenica, 87 votes; and Karl M. Stubenvoll, 81 votes.

Total votes cast were 920 with no write-ins.

Town of Nasewaupee

There were two primaries in Nasewaupee. Three candidates ran for the Supervisor 1 seat, four for the Supervisor 2 seat. Each seat required the elimination of the one person who received the fewest votes.

Total votes cast were 428, including two write-ins.
