Retired Professor Featured As UU Poet

The Dickinson Poetry Series features Estella Lauter at 7 pm August 12 reading from her bountiful collection of poetry reflecting the many facets of her varied career and interests.

Lauter is professor emerita from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. During her career of teaching and administration in the University of Wisconsin System, she published books and articles spanning women’s studies, literature, visual art, aesthetics, psychology and religion. She has also taught in Germany and Russia. She began to write poems when her second child was born as an antidote to her lifelong pattern of commuting – between cities, regions, roles, and fields of study. In retirement, she writes, does whatever she can to promote peace and justice for all forms of life and co-chairs the Democratic Party of Door County.

The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Door County (UUFDC) sponsors the Dickinson Poetry Series to promote the love of poetry and to offer an opportunity for the community to hear and read their own selections during an open mic session following the featured poet. The Dickinson Series is held on the second Wednesday each month at UUFDC, 10341 Hwy. 42, Ephraim. It is open to the public at no charge. Anya Kopischke, a student at Gibraltar School, will read her poetry at the September 9 event. For more information, visit http://www.uufdc.org.
