OBITUARY: Rev. Roger W. Falk

Rev. Roger W. Falk, 79, of Sturgeon Bay, died Nov. 8, 2018 in Green Bay.  He was born July 4, 1939 in Shawano, WI to Gilbert and Arlene (Rotter) Falk.  Roger was the first of 5 siblings, and he lived in the Bonduel and Cecil area until 1942 when his family moved to Washington Island.  He graduated from Concordia High School in Milwaukee in 1957 and from Concordia College of Milwaukee in 1959.

Roger entered the US Navy in January of 1960 and served in the communications and intelligence departments.  It was during his last tour of duty in Japan that he met and married Kiyoko Uedan on Dec. 22, 1963.

In Jan. of 1964 Roger and Kiyoko returned to the United States, joining Lakewood Ev. Lutheran Church (ELS) in Tocoma, Washington.   Roger was a very active member at the church until he and Kiyoko moved to Mankato, Minnesota.  It was there where Roger enrolled in Bethany Lutheran Seminary, graduating with a Bachelor of Divinity degree on May 29, 1969.   He fulfilled his childhood dream of becoming a pastor when he was ordained and installed as a pastor at First American Lutheran Church (ELS) of Mayville, North Dakota.  Pastor Falk ministered to several congregations in the US until accepting a call in 1974 to serve the Japan Mission of the Wisconsin Lutheran Synod.

Since 2000, Pastor Falk has lived in Sturgeon Bay, joining St. Peter’s Lutheran Church as a member.  At St. Peter’s, he served as an interim pastor for 15 months.  Pastor Falk continued to lead Bible classes and facilitate a grief recovery program for many years.

Survivors include a sister, Francine Falk of Neenah, Wisconsin, two brothers, Thomas Falk of Manawa, and Kenneth Falk of Ellison Bay;  four nieces and a nephew.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and a brother Richard.

Funeral services with military honors will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2018 at St. Peters Lutheran Church with the Rev. Darrick Kolterjahn officiating.  Burial will be in the Washington Island Town Cemetery.  Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 1:00 pm until the time of service.  Forbes Funeral Home & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.  Memorials may be directed to St. Peter’s Lutheran School.
