Rib Fest, Sled Dogs, Packer Parties & More Weekend Plans

October is gone and with it, the Door Peninsula settles into its late fall slumber. Enjoy the start of the quiet season with plenty of delicious foodie opportunities, gallery receptions, bluegrass and country music, and the ever-so-cuddly Door County Sled Dogs.

Friday, November 6

A Weekend of Fantastic Fare

Whether you’re in the mood for a sample of local food or a full-blown meal, this weekend offers a few ways to indulge: learn to perfect your drink and cheese pairings at Schoolhouse Artisan Cheese’s Perfect Pairings event or honor the county’s Norwegian settlers with the Sons of Norway’s annual lutefisk dinner (meatballs will also be served). NWTC will host the Loaves and Fishes community family-style meal and on Saturday, Rib Fest will take over the Sturgeon Bay Yacht Club, encouraging you to try a rib from the professional chefs, restaurants and amateur chefs competing.

Last Man Standing at the Fireside

Cozy up with this four-piece bluegrass and folk band at The Fireside in Ellison Bay from 4 – 6 pm.

Winter Celebration at Plum Bottom

Celebrate the expansion of Plum Bottom’s winter hours by enjoying snacks, wine and the beautiful work of silversmiths Amanda Dewitt and Hannah Wong. 10 am – 4 pm.

Meet the Door County Sled Dogs

Meet the mushers and cuddle the pups of Door County Sled Dogs while learning about good pet care, obedience training and the sport of dog sledding at Renard’s Cheese. 11 am – 1 pm.

“Parks of Door County” Opening Reception

Nature lovers of all walks of life have long enjoyed photographing Door County’s beautiful state and county properties. The Miller Art Museum will celebrate a selection of these photographs with an opening reception of its final exhibit of the season, “Parks of Door County: Photographs Inspired by State and County Properties.” 3 – 4:30 pm.

Boogie with the Modern Day Drifters

Dance along to the classic rock and country of Door County favorites Modern Day Drifters while supporting the Jacksonport Fire Department during its annual dance/benefit. 7:30 pm.

Sunday, November 8

Packer Tailgate Party Fundraiser

What better way to celebrate a Packers game than with all-you-can-eat chili, brats, burgers, nachos and desserts for $10? Knights of Columbus Council #4896 will host this benefit for Feed My People at Sister Bay Bowl on Sunday. Doors open at 10:30 am with a noon game time.

Hike at Ida Bay Preserve

Late fall is particularly beautiful in this mixed hardwood forest. Join a naturalist for this free Sunday morning ramble in Sturgeon Bay. 11 am.

Green Bay Packers vs. Carolina Panthers

The Green Bay Packers take on the Carolina Panthers at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina. Noon.
