Ridges Sanctuary Announces Summer Guided Hikes/Paddles

New for this season, the Ridges will partner with Lakeshore Adventures to offer guided eco-tours on Kangaroo Lake.

The Ridges Sanctuary announces many opportunities to take part in guided hikes/paddles this summer. Guided nature hikes resume at The Ridges in May, with hikes scheduled at 1:30 pm on May 15, 17, 22, 29 and 31. Beginning June 4, guided hikes are available at 9:30 am and 1:30 pm, Tuesdays through Fridays, and 9:30 am on Saturdays.

All hikes begin at The Ridges Marshall Cabin. The fee is $5 for Ridges members and $8 for the general public (children younger than 18 hike for free).

Naturalist Karen Newbern will lead a guided wildflower hike at the Logan Creek Property on May 18 at 1 pm. The 90-minute hike will follow trails through an area containing a wide array of wildflowers, and many early spring species.

Meet at the parking lot at 5724 Loritz Road, just south of Jacksonport. Cost is $5 for adults, and no charge for children younger than 18. Preregistration is requested.

Discovery Bird Hikes will be held Saturdays at 7 am from May 11 – July 22. Those who prefer to rise at a more reasonable hour may enjoy the Not-So-Early Bird Hikes on May 11, June 1 and July 13 at 9 am. Bird hikes are free for Ridges members, and $5 for the general public.

The Ridges is partnering with Lakeshore Adventures this season to offer guided eco-tours on Kangaroo Lake, Wednesday afternoons beginning June 15. Paddle in glass bottom kayaks and view an assortment of waterfowl, aquatic vegetation, freshwater clams and turtles while learning about the conservation efforts within the watershed.
