Ridges Sanctuary Hosts Dragonfly Workshop

Dragonflies will be the focus of a workshop sponsored by The Ridges Sanctuary in Baileys Harbor. On Saturday, July 11 at 9 pm, Paul Burton will lead an excursion into the “wilds” of the Pickerel Pond area in search of various species of dragonflies. The workshop will begin at the Ridges’ Marshall Cabin on 8288 Hwy Q in Baileys Harbor.

The workshop and field trip will be led by Burton and Ridges Naturalist Karen Newbern. After a brief introduction to dragonflies, participants will receive a handout identifying the common dragonflies of The Ridges, Mud Lake and Pickerel Pond areas. The group will carpool to Moonlight Bay and hike the shoreline and streambank near Pickerel Pond. Along the way, participants will capture and examine dragonflies, ones that may include the federally endangered Hine’s Emerald Dragonfly.

The cost of the workshop is $10 for adults, $15 for a couple, and children under 18 are free if accompanied by an adult.
