Ridges Summer Programs

Water enthusiasts will be happy to hear that The Ridges Sanctuary is offering guided eco-tours on both Kangaroo Lake and Clark Lake on Wednesdays, July though August. Experience these unspoiled areas of Door County with a Ridges naturalist as a guide for a lesson in biodiversity.

Reservations for the Clark Lake tours, which begin at 8 am, will be handled by Bay Shore Outfitters; contact them at 920.854.7598. Tours will meet at The Ridges Nature Center. For Kangaroo Lake tours, contact Lakeshore Adventures, 920.493.3474. Tours will depart from Lakeshore Adventures at 3 pm, 8133 Hwy 57 in Baileys Harbor. Tours are $55 per person. Fees are fully refundable if a tour is canceled due to weather.

On July 11 at 9 am, Dr. Paul Burton will lead a dragonfly workshop. Meet at The Ridges Nature Center and spend the morning outdoors capturing and identifying different dragonfly species. The program fees are $10/adult for Ridges members, $13/adult for the general public and $5/child for children under 18.

Dick Nikolai presents “Purple Martin: The Aerial Acrobat” on July 17, 7 pm as part of the popular Lake Lessons speaker series at the Baileys Harbor Town Hall. Nikolai, former Wildlife Biologist with the Wisconsin DNR, will shed some light on the state of the Purple Martin in Wisconsin and provide information on ecology, colony management and banding. Those interested in a hands-on birding activity with Nikolai can attend an adult workshop on Purple Martin Colony Management & Banding on July 18, 10 am – 1 pm.

Program fees are $30/person for Ridges members, $40/ person for the general public. Meet at The Ridges Marshall Cabin, 8288 Hwy Q in Baileys Harbor. Space is limited to 20 people and advance registration is required. Register online at RidgesSanctuary.org or call 920.839.2802.
