The Ephraim Yacht Club (EYC) will offer a two-day Laser clinic on July 10 & 11. The clinic is open to EYC members and non-members, ages 12 and up.
The 13-foot Laser is the world’s largest class of one-design sailboats, with more than 200,000 built since the early 1970s. The Laser is an Olympic singlehanded class for both men and women.
“The Laser is a fun and fast boat which is easy to sail but at the same time is high performance,” said EYC Education Chairman Jay Lott. “The EYC’s Laser fleet has been growing every year – in both numbers of boats and in racing participation – since we designated the Laser as an EYC fleet five years ago. Now we want to enable EYC members and non-members to take their Laser sailing skills to the next level.”
The clinic will be led by Bobby Collins, sailing director at the Chicago Yacht Club, who has more than 10 years experience as a professional sailing coach.
The clinic will focus on how to properly rig and sail Lasers and Laser Radials, including boat handling, tacking and jibing, sail trim, boat speed and kinetics. The clinic will include approximately 12 hours of instruction during two days. The clinic price of $112 for non-members includes lunch and beverages both days and a textbook. Non-members must supply their own Laser or Laser Radial for use in the clinic.
Enrollment is limited. Advance registration is required. To register, visit eyc.org.
