River Alliance and Nature Conservancy Co-host Mink River Meander

On May 5, 8 am – 12 pm, the River Alliance of Wisconsin and The Nature Conservancy will lead a guided exploration of the Mink River in Ellison Bay. As hikers walk from the upland hardwood forest down to the lowland forest near the river and back, they will have an opportunity to visit with an expert in local ecology on a myriad of topics related to the area, including:  the ecological impact of the peninsula’s history, river hydrology, groundwater conditions, migratory bird patterns, invasive species, fluctuating lake levels and changing weather patterns.

The hike is about 1.5 miles round trip and will last about three hours. Coffee and pastries will be provided before the event. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable walking shoes and dress for the weather (birders may bring binoculars).

Lodging is available at Rowleys Bay Resort. Guests should let the resort know they’re with the River Alliance/The Nature Conservancy group.
