Rob Williams to Discuss Landscape Painting at DCAL Meeting

Painter Rob Williams will discuss his approach to landscape painting at the Aug. 22 Door County Art League (DCAL) meeting in Egg Harbor. Williams discovered Door County as a destination with its natural beauty and thriving art scene while teaching high school art in Crystal Lake, Ill. He and his photographer wife, Shirley, purchased a summer home in Ellison Bay in 1990 and in 2004 opened Rob Williams Studio/Gallery. The rugged beauty of the area and its constantly changing landscape is visually inspiring for Williams.

“When painting, I translate this subject matter into my version of a contemporary landscape painting, pushing color, design and my loose painterly style to create something fresh and new,” he said.

Williams combines plein air with photos and sketches for his compositions, using vivid color and semi-abstracted shapes to express the mood of the place he is painting. Oil is his medium of choice for his large paintings, which can reach four feet by six feet. His signature, loose painterly style gives his work freshness and energy.

The meeting begins at 6 pm and is open to the public. The meeting takes place at the Bertschinger Center, located at Orchard Dr. and Hwy 42 in Egg Harbor.
