Room tax collections dropped dramatically in November to $46,156, the lowest one-month total since the 5.5 percent tax went into effect in May and an 85 percent decline from October.
The drop, from $316,675 in October, was not unexpected, as far fewer people visit the county after the festival weekends end in October. Collections for the year to date have now reached $2,197,596, of which 30 percent goes to the 11 municipalities collecting the tax.
Room occupancy rates dropped to 18 percent for the month, more than five percent lower than May’s rate, and the average daily rate paid for lodging dropped to a low of $95.
